NMP and PCGA Medical and Dental Mission Served Hundreds of Beneficiaries

The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), a premier maritime training and research center, with principal address at Brgy. Cabalawan, Tacloban City, has partnered with the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary 1101st Squadron in a medical and dental mission on 28 November 2016 at the NMP Gymnasium at Brgy. Cabalawan, Tacloban City.

The outreach program, dubbed as ‘Yolanda Medical and Dental Mission’, was sponsored by JX Ocean Co., Ltd. in cooperation with Ponciano C. Marquez (PCM) Foundation, Inc.

Sponsors and volunteers took a time off from their busy schedules for the charitable cause.

Volunteer doctors, dentists, medical students, pharmacists, nurses and dental aides came from the Doña Remedios Trinidad Romualdez Medical Foundation, Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, Mother of Mercy Hospital, Philippine Dental Association, Philippine Pediatric Society and Philippine College of Physician.

The recipients benefitted from free medical and pediatric consultations, dental check-up, tooth extraction and prescription medicines.

Mr. Michiyasu Kobayashi, President of JX Ocean Co., Ltd., expressed his appreciation on the preparations for such a worthwhile cause. He added that the sponsorship is their way of showing gratefulness on the loyalty of their Filipino crew and associates in shipping operations.

Mr. Eric Marquez, President of PCM Foundation, Inc. and Virjen Shipping Corporation, expects that the undertaking will help alleviate the ailments of the victims of Typhoon Yolanda.

Ms. Grace Marie T. Ayaso, Chief Science Research Specialist and NMP Officer-in-Charge, thanked the sponsors and the medical and dental practitioners for sharing their wealth and valuable time.

Capt. Jonifer C Nuevas, MM and PCGA 1101st Auxiliary Squadron Director extended his heartfelt gratitude to the sponsors and commended the participating medical organizations. “Thank you for your time and talents to make a difference on the lives of others especially those who have less access to medical help”, he said.

Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to the sponsors and volunteer institutions and organizations.

Some four hundred fifty-three (453) individuals from Brgy. Tinaogan, Basey, Samar; Bgry. Cabalawan and Brgy. Bagacay, Tacloban City; and trainees and employees including job order workers of NMP availed of the services.
