NMP, IMMAJ and PJMCC Invite MHEI Heads and Faculty to Maritime Faculty Development Forum
The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), International Mariners Management Association of Japan, (IMMAJ) and Philippine-Japan Manning Consultative Council, Inc. (PJMCC) invite heads and faculty members of maritime schools to the Maritime Faculty Development Forum (MFDF 2017) that will be held on 21 February 2017 at the Grand Menseng Hotel, Davao City; 24 February 2017 at Best Western Plus Lex Cebu Hotel, Cebu City; and 1 March 2017 at Pan Pacific Hotel, Manila.
The forum is a gathering of the country’s stakeholders in maritime education that will serve as a venue for the dissemination of initiatives being undertaken by the government and the private sectors as well as discussions of challenges, problems, issues and concerns related to maritime faculty development in the light of the STCW Convention.
Workshops will be conducted during the said forum to generate information on the training and development needs of maritime faculty of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA)-recognized maritime higher education institutions (MHEIs) with program offerings in Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT), Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE), Enhanced Support Level Program for Deck (ESLP-Deck) and Enhanced Support Level Program for Engine (ESLP-Engine) that will be the basis in the development of an Action Plan for a National Maritime Program for Faculty Development (NMPFD).
The NMPFD will serve as the blueprint towards upgrading the teaching competencies of maritime faculty members of MHEIs to the current approaches as specified by the 2010 Manila Amendments to the 1978 STCW Convention.
Speakers and facilitators will come from the MARINA, CHED, Philippine Association of Maritime Institutions (PAMI), IMMAJ-PJMCC, NMP and Employers’ Group.
