NMP Courses Delivery Underwent Verification Inspection by MARINA

The Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) – regulated courses of the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) underwent verification inspection by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) on 24-25 July, 2017 at the NMP’s principal location at Brgy. Cabalawan, Tacloban City.

It is recalled that the NMP’s approved STCW training programs were subjected to monitoring inspection last 3-5 April 2017. These courses were evaluated in the key areas of Quality Standards System; Organization, Management and Support Staff; Curriculum; Teaching Methods and Media of Delivery; Examination and Assessment; Instructors and Assessors; Admission and Registration; Facilities; Training Equipment; and Simulators.

Thereafter, NMP addressed promptly the observations raised by the evaluators through the submission of the planned corrective and preventive actions. These plans were considered acceptable by the aforementioned regulatory agency.

The recent inspection concluded that the action plans are implemented and are effectively addressing the findings. Certainly, NMP training programs are delivered in accordance with the written programs, methods and media of delivery, procedures, and course materials compliant with international standards as prescribed under the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) Convention, as amended in 2010.

As the only government maritime training and research center in the country, the NMP takes pride in ensuring the quality of its training programs that measure up to international standards in order to contribute significantly in improving the qualifications of Filipino seafarers for their employment acceptability and enhanced competitiveness.

The inspection team was composed of Capt. Vicente C. Navarro, Second Engineer Yevhgeny L. Terrazola, Engr. Jose Romualdo Q. Denzon and Ms. Dana Justine dela Cruz, all from the MARINA STCW Office.

NMP continues to offer quality maritime trainings required pursuant to STCW Convention as amended in 2010 and other value-added training courses. Those interested to take NMP training programs may visit the NMP website (www.nmp.gov.ph) and facebook page (facebook.com\nmptrainingcenter) where all related information on NMP trainings are available.
